Because if all you did was pop the hood and look at the engine, that doesn't tell you a single thing about whether it's in good condition or not. And if one caliper was hung up, it would hesitate ALL THE TIME, not just when letting off the gas....And the car would pull horribly to one direction. As well as have the ABS light turn on, and other warnings. And why would the wheels being dirty have ANYTHING to do with the caliper being stuck? Sounds more like you have an injector problem, or bad idle control valve, or something of that nature. |
| 1977 F-150, 351M, C6 Tranny, 4X4? I just put a new carburetor, and long tube headers on my truck. prior to this I had no problems with my transmission. Now that I have installed the parts, I dont have third gear. I don't even have the kickdown on yet so, i know it isn't hung up or too tight. Is there any other reason that the installation of these parts could cause this problem. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help. |
| all i can suggest is check the modulator on the back of the tranny. it has a vacuum line going to it and has to be working for the tranny to shift properly. make sure you are getting vacuum at the intake where the line attaches and then check at the modulator also. usually there is a steel line attached to the firewall going to the tranny with a hose on each end. check it also for damage. if the tranny was working before you have missed something so keep looking. don't attach the vacuum line to the carb but to the intake. |

| 1995 Chevy Lumina APV Transmission removal? 1995 Chevy Lumina APV 3.8L V6 FWD Automatic tranny with over drive. I am hung up on removing the tranny. i removed the bolts on the front and rear driver side tranny mounts and the rear tranny mount by the passanger side. the bell housing bolts have been removed, starter removed, shifter cable removed, three sets of cable connecters removed. there is no cross member in the way of the tranny. axles have been removed as well. i just cant get the tranny to shift away from the engine so i can lower it. i can pry the front of the tranny and you can see that it seperates but i cant get it off the engine. ive went over it 3 times, and had 2 other sets of eyes look and it looks like its ready to pull. am i missing something, any tips other than taking it to a shop. this is not my first FWD tranny, ive done others and cant seem to figure out why i cant get it to drop. thank you for your help in advance |
| the converter might be hung up on the front pump. try turning the engine over by hand and see if it will come out. did you take the lines off? |
| Transmission Help Please!!? I have a 1985 Monte Carlo SS with the 200-4R overdrive transmission. The TV cable is adjusted right and the fluid and filter are pretty new, they were changed about 500 miles ago when the motor was rebuilt. My problem is that sometimes the tranny will act like it gets hung between 2nd and 3rd gear and coast like its in neutral. I can play with the throttle and get it to kick back into second but it will stay there until I park the car and let it sit a while. Then sometimes it works fine, It doesent slip, or have burnt fluid, or even shift hard. Any help is appreciated, this has me puzzled. |
| Take your car to a reputable local transmission shop. Avoid national chain shops as they are usually scam artists. I haven't torn one of these transmissions down in many years, but it sounds like you have a valve body problem. Your trans shop can run a few pressure tests & perform a visual inspection of the valve body & pinpoint the problem for you. |
