| In my many years of teaching I have worked with: some intelligent sports teachers, some not so bright math teachers, some straight male drama teachers, and I have found a spectrum of political thought from very liberal to very conservative. And some great teachers have been found on all sides of the spectrum. You will probably find, if you do go into teaching, fellow teachers both more liberal and more conservative than you. |

I go to a very small private school with a very small staff, so the administrator also happens to be the director and a teacher for 5 different subjects. | I think it's okay for a teacher to mention what they believe to students. However, I feel it's a teacher's job to explain that there are many different sides to every issues and that students should actively work to figure out their own perspectives. It sounds like if he's being very fire and brimstone about it, then it needs to be dealt with. I would talk to the principle or another administrator above his head. If they don't seem likely to do anything, talk to your parents and possibly other students parents about it. Chances are, if the parents don't agree, they will do something about it. If the parents don't agree, there's not much you can do other than to tell the students your own side every chance you get. That will make the other students think more critically and force them to make up their own mind. You can't change the teacher's mind, but you can do what you feel is right in terms of stopping him. |
